According to the double-slit experiment in quantum mechanics, a single quantum behaves differently depending on whether it is observed: when observed, it appears as two discrete lines; when unobserved, it forms an interference pattern like a wave. Quantum matter exists in parallel as both particle and wave.
What fascinates her is not only the shift between wave and particle, but the unanswered question at the core: why does one quantum appear to divide into two paths before observation?
Since science has yet to explain this origin, she represents it as an unknown black square: an image of mystery, absence, and possibility.
量子力学における二重スリット実験によれば、ひとつの量子は観測の有無によって異なる振る舞いを示す。観測された場合には二本の線として現れ、観測されない場合には波のように干渉し、縞模様を形成する。量子は粒子であると同時に波動として、並行的に存在している。
彼女が強く惹かれるのは、波と粒子の切り替わりそのもの以上に、その手前にある未解明の問いである。なぜひとつの量子は、観測される以前に、あたかも二つの経路へと分岐するかのように振る舞うのか。
この起源はいまだ科学によって説明されていない。彼女はその「説明不可能な部分」を、黒い四角として画面に置く。それは謎であり、欠如であり、同時に可能性の象徴でもある。
