In Authentic & Vulnerable, Lin depicts Maria holding the child Jesus in a style reminiscent of stained-glass windows. Maria gazes forward with a resigned yet steadfast expression, embodying her acceptance of the inner work required to become her most authentic self, even at the cost of vulnerability. By contrast, Jesus averts his eyes, symbolizing the masculine energy’s reluctance to confront inner growth for fear of exposing fragility. Here, Maria represents the collective feminine energy, which Lin sees as having advanced far in inner work, while Jesus embodies the masculine energy, still resistant and spiritually immature. These energies transcend biological gender.
《Authentic & Vulnerable》において、林はステンドグラスのような様式で、幼子イエスを抱くマリアの姿を描いている。マリアは前方を見つめ、どこか受け入れたようでいて、同時に意志のこもった表情をしている。それは、自分自身のもっとも真実なあり方に近づくために必要な内的な作業を引き受ける姿勢を示しており、たとえそれが脆さをさらすことであっても避けないという態度を表している。
一方、イエスは視線をそらしている。それは、脆弱性が露わになることを恐れ、内的な成長に向き合うことをためらう男性的エネルギーの象徴である。
ここでマリアは、すでに内面の作業を進め、その変化を引き受けてきた集団的な女性性を体現しているのに対し、イエスはなお抵抗を残す集団的な男性性を表している。
なお本作で言う「女性性」「男性性」は、生物学的な性別を指すものではなく、象徴的・構造的な次元を指している。
